Description: This vase is by the Italian artist Marcello Fantoni, whose work is represented in museums throughout the world. The vase depicts stylized women in black and white patterned dresses with neck ribbons or scarfs. The vase is predominantly in grey with black and yellow accents in a very mid-century style. Although difficult to discern in the photos, it is an interesting shape with two of its sides softly indented. The vase, although it appears to be unsigned, is essentially identical in style, color and design to other signed Fantoni pieces produced during the same 1950s period. As a result, the listed price is half the cost of a signed equivalent. This item was a wedding gift received by my parents in 1954 and has been in the family since that time. Remarkably this vase has no chips, cracks or other apparent defects, despite its age. It is 7" high and 5" wide. This vase would make a beautiful and important addition to any mid-century pottery collection.
