Description: This is a rare find that just came out of my parents' Native American collection. It was given to my father by his father, who collected it sometime during an expedition through the Southwest, just around the Turn of the Century. There were no notes as to where exactly it was purchased, or found, but it has been on display with their things ever since. I believe this could be as early as the 17th century into the 18th century, Zuni or Pueblo, fully carved Stone Directional, Heart line Bear with arrows carved on both sides of his body. It has one remaining turquoise eye, as shown, a sweet carved mouth, ears, and just a wonderful, wonderful primitive look with the original Sinew around the center holding a feather that is in a bit of disarray, but still sturdy, in place, with a lovely look to it. It measures a total length, nose to tail of 7" x 3 1/2" tall to the top of his ears x 2 1/2" total width across the bottom on his stomach. It has deep carved split feet, shown on the bottom, as well as the arrows on each side. Weight: 2 3/4 lbs. Condition is excellent early prehistoric antique, very collectible, with signs of wear from age. The stone surface on his back area and front feet and across the front, has worn off and shows on the underside, the original color of whatever stone it was carved from.... This it is not damage. The only damage is a small chip on the right back foot, as shown and one missing eye. Other than that, the white areas across his front and near his feet, is just where I believe, whatever had been applied to the surface to make it dark, has worn off in those areas over time. This is just an exceptionally rare thing to find, worthy of any fine collection, is Museum quality, coming from a smoke free environment.
