Description: Rare Pamphlet In Sequoyan Syllabary, Cherokee Language / Baptism The Mode, by Reverend John Edwards, Translated and Printed by Reverend Amory Nelson Chamberlin, 8pp pamphlet, Vinita, Indian Territory: Chieftan Print, no date, circa 1890, paper brittle and prone to chipping, please exercise care when handling, top outer corner chipped neatly away, not affecting text, overall very clean and bright. This is a very scarce Cherokee language imprint from Vinita, Indian Territory, which was later Oklahoma. The Reverend Chamberlin went to Pheasant Hill Mission, in what is now Craig County, OK, in 1868, several years before Vinita came into existence. He printed his own translations of religious matter and distributed them among the Native Americans as part of his missionary work for the Presbyterian Church.
