Description: Offered for sale is a collection of Rare personalized Paul Webb Mountain Boy's illustrations. Each piece measures roughly 9" x 5-3/4". Each was mounted within a vintage scrap book, thus has paper/glue residue on the back that I've not tried to remove to prevent damaging the piece. Noting some staining/browning to each of the three. As you probably know, Paul Webb was a cartoonist for Esquire, LIFE, Collier's and The Saturday Evening Post periodicals. He was most known for his comic characters, "The Mountain Boys." These I believe predate much of his work in the 40s and 50s, as the scrap book had dated items from the 20's & 30's specifically, with these mixed in with the later 1930's items, thus believe they pre-date the magazine illustrations. I believe they were Christmas cards, as these were included with other vintage Christmas cards (and it appears the top was cut/torn from another section. The Mountain Boys were used on many advertising items, including a series of calendars for the advertising agency, Brown & Bigelow. I'm not sure how my uncle knew Mr. Webb, but perhaps it was through his experience in the Army in World War I or the American Legion which he was quite active. In any case, these appear to be quite rare items and would be a neat addition to any collection of his art. I will carefully wrap and box these for shipment via trackable First class mail with "ship cover" insurance included. I strive to accurately describe my items.
