Description: This rare and precious moai kavakava statue is from Easter Island. This kavakava statue is a testament to the rich cultural heritage and represents the ancestry of the Rapa Nui people. The kavakava spirit is a powerful symbol in the island's folklore, and this statue is a way to honor and preserve that tradition. This moai kavakava is made from the sacred and almost extinct sophora toromiro tree. The statue is free-standing despite its small feet and quite heavy. Its rich, deep mahogany color is striated in places with a reddish-brown hue. It’s carved from a single piece of toromiro wood and has a pale yellow portion of wood on the statue’s back (since this particular piece of toromiro was from a more narrow branch having the lightest part of the piece just under the bark before it was removed) [please see photos]. There are natural splits in the head back, stomach, feet and other parts of the statue’s body (please see photos). The statue is 25 inches / 64 cm’s in height; 4 inches / 10 cm’s in width and weighs 4 lbs & 10 oz. This rare moai kavakava is perfect for collectors of Oceanic culture and history. This piece is a must-have for anyone who appreciates the artistry and history of Easter Island and the Rapa Nui culture.
