It was issued as part of the gas mask and they were not allowed to be apart from each other. The cape is a anti yperite gas cape which was designed to protect the wearer from the effects of yperite gas which was a heavy gas which would lay on the ground surface. The cape was designed as a one time use and was to be thrown away after its use. Made from a special paper with fibre strands running inside to make it stronger, It has the correct paper label which shows the date of manufacture and the level of exposure to gas.
