Description: A reproduction version of a Napoleonic Légion d'Honneur (Legion of Honor) in the Officier (Officer) grade. This medal is a Type III, and from my research was made generally between 1806-1808. A perfect gift for anyone interested in the truly momentous times of the Napoleonic era and the French Revolution! The Order of the Legion of Honor was established by the then First Consul, (and later Emperor of the French) Napoleon Bonaparte in the year of 1802, following his want to create a medal similar to the older orders of chivalry which could be given to both civilians and military personnel. Following the new revolutionary republican ideals of France in the era, this medal was not limited to nobility and high-ranking personnel, but could be earned by men of all ranks, or all types of trades and professions -- with merit and/or bravery alone could one earn their way into the Legion. Important note: We have received many requests about things such as the rosette which typically came on Officier-grade medals, or the large sash that is worn with some higher levels. We do not sell these products, the ribbon which comes with the medal is intended as a temporary ribbon. The medal is not intended to be a full replica by any means, there are several noted errors in historical accuracy, but with our constraints we have tried to make the most accurate medal possible.
