A dozen of those notes are either locked away in museums or Federal Reserve Banks. Track & Price lists only six notes graded higher than the beautiful Fr. 151 in this lot. In fact, our archives show that we have offered only a single Fr. 151 third party graded note higher and none equal. Our one higher offering was a PCGS 58PPQ and it realized $176,250 in January 2013. This is only the second time that the current note with serial number Y405621 has been offered at auction since the August 1983 ANA. The other appearance occurred in April 2016 at our Central States auction and the price realized was $223,250. It has been owned by our consignor since then and his name can be added to the illustrious provenance this note possesses. Previous owners of this note were famed paper money collectors/dealers George Blake, William A. Philpott, and Bob Medlar. It is a plate letter A example with three wide margins and excellent red and blue color on the face, while the green ink on the back is ideal. The face has at left a vignette of Return to Peace where Peace is holding a small statue of Mercury in her left hand and a portrait of Kentucky statesman Henry Clay at right. It is a beautiful Rainbow $50 that is certainly worth stretching for. *PLEASE BE AWARE THESE BANKNOTES ARE REPRODUCTIONS* Reproduction of a High value note.
