Description: Republic of Korea 20th Century Bronze Carved Brazier. Because of their modest size and portability, braziers, primarily used for cooking and heating, have a long history as common objects in upper-class Korean households and as part of ceremonial preparations. During the late Joseon Dynasty, increased demand led to more ornate braziers. This brazier is engraved with images of auspicious symbols such as birds and lotuses, characters of wealth and longevity. The Brazier of the same style, 《Jegi: Korean Ritual Object》is on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, from August 6, 2022 to October 15, 2023.
