Description: This includes the key parts to convert a regular Bristol Centaurus-powered Hawker Sea Fury to the single Sabre-powered prototype. When fitted with the water-cooled Sabre engine, this aircraft used the long. wing-mounted radiators. Includes the engine cowling, the large wing-mounted radiators and the spinner. Does not include prop or 12-piece exhaust stubs. If you also make an Academy Typhoon with 3-bladed prop, you will have a 4-bladed prop left over and you’re all set for the prop & spinner. At least that’s what I did…Now also includes vinyl masks for properly-sized "P" prototype side markings. To place the cowling in the fuselage you will need to cut off part of the kit cowling as shown in the photo. Then to match the width of the resin cowling, you need to slit open the fuselage above the wing and pull it in with a clamp. The Sea Fury fuselage was widened in the area aft of the engine, so this needs to be undone. Some filling will be required, but the results are worth it! The engine cowling consists of two parts, the resin inner cowling and the sheet formed lower cowling that goes over it. The resin parts may still have some mold release on them so give them a good cleaning before painting or gluing. Carefully trim the lower cowling to leave an appropriate gap below the spinner but have it contact the resin cowling block on the sides and rear. Use CA glue to attach the lower cowling, carefully trim front edge to shape, then fill to smooth over the joint. The lower cowling was simply molded from sheet plastic over the resin cowling using the old heat-and-smash method. If it gets damaged (which is easy to do), you can still make another one that way with some scrap sheet plastic. I built this to fit the PM Models Sea Fury, but will probably fit other Sea Fury kits. This particular Fury prototype, LA610, was used to test both the Sabre and the Griffon engines and had to be extensively modified for each. Also see my auction for a conversion to the Griffon-engined prototype. From a smoke-free home. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
