Robert Andrew Parker is an American artist known for both his paintings and prints of figures, landscapes, and animals. Parker has produced set designs for operas and films, as well as illustrations for over 40 children’s books during the course of his career. Born in Norfolk, VA in 1927, he went on to study at the Art Institute of Chicago during the late 1950s. From there he continued his studies at Skowhegan Art School in Maine. In 1970 the artist began one of his best-known series of works. Based on the World War II-era poems of Keith Douglas, the suite of colors portray both the wistful days of a British solider on holiday and the bleak reality of his time fighting in the battlefields of Egypt. Parker lives and works in New York, NY. The artist’s works are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago, among others.
