Description: Listing tonight original and authentic John Rogers Groups entitled "Council of War" ....variants "A","B","C" FULL SIZE all together one listing possibly for the very 1st time ever on EBay.....ULTRA RARE! .....signed John Rogers New York. These Groups were patented in 1868. Starting 1st with: Variant "A" the rareity of this particular group Council of War is the fact that this is variant "A" or the very "1st" version that Rogers made of the three variants of this statuary Council of War. This "A" variant or ""1st" version of the Group was produced then quickly changed as Secretary Stanton's hands are wiping his glasses directly positioned behind President Lincoln's head and many took offense to this as the President was murdered by a bullet to the back of head. Also, some believed in a conspiracy theory that Stanton had some involvement in the Presidents murder and that his hands were in a compromising position. This groups listing photos of variant "A" are on the far left in the first 3 photos. Desciption and condition: 24 inches in height by 15 inches wide by 12 inches deep; original paint; structural damage to the map, Grants right hand, Lincoln's left pointer finger and left top of boot, front chip in base under C in Council, paint flaking; please look at the photos carefully as those should be used as the best desciption. It's hard to say how many of variant "A" or "1st" version Council of War's were produced but it could be as little as 7-10% of the total number of Council of War's in existence. Next Variant "B" hands in front with handkerchief. The "B" variant is the most common of the three. This example was painted in polychrome colors and shows and early repaint as it has heavy flaking. What appears as a photo after polychromed is also included. The "B" example is also listed by itself for sale on EBay.....the only statue of the 3 which can be purchased separately. Please see the listing for a more specific profile. This "B" variant is the middle statue in the the first 3 photos of the listing. Lastly,for your careful consideration and rounding out this most desirable trilogy is Council of War Variant "C".....extremely rare once again (possibly only 7-10% of total Council's ever produced) and in short supply to be sure a very hard Rogers Group to acquire. The dimensions throughout each variant remain the same. The "C" variant now has Stanton left hand holding glasses (no hankerchief) with right arm relaxed down by his side. This "C" variant appears to have a pretty new fresh coat of the Rogers color. This statue looks structurally sound. The best description are the photos downloaded for this listing.
