Description: Up for sale is the official program for the legacy celebration in honor of Rosa Louise McCauley Parks (February 4, 1913 – October 24, 2005) and the 50th anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott held at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, Michigan on December 1, 2005, just a few weeks after her death. It is printed on a regular 8 ½ “x 11” paper that was folded in half. The front image is pixelated. 4 pages. + Bonus biography published by Charles H. Wright Museum (single sheet). Some of the speakers included Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated president Linda M. White. During the event, a brass plaque was installed at the museum’s famed Ring of Genealogy. Post-death events: Parks’ coffin was flown to Montgomery, Alabama, where she lay in repose at the altar St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church on October 29, 2005. Her casket was then transported to to Washington, D.C. to lie in honor in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. In the nation’s capitol, a memorial service was held at Metropolitan AME Church. Her body and casket then returned to Detroit, where she lay in repose at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Her funeral service, held on November 2, 2005, was seven hours long.
