Является самым крупным из сохранившихся до наших дней парусных учебных судов, и на этом основании барк в 1993 году занесён в Книгу рекордов Гиннесса. С 1992 по 1999 год «Седов» участвовал в регатах, проводимых «Катти Сарк», при этом в 1992 году он занял второе место, в 1994 году — третье место, а в 1995 году — первое место за регату. С 1966 по 2015 год судно совершило 93 учебных рейса и неоднократно участвовало в международных регатах, во время которых парусник более 200 раз заходил в порты Европы, Америки, Африки. В 2006 и 2010 годах «Седов» совершил высокоширотные арктические экспедиции, в 2013 году в Санкт-Петербурге завершил своё первое кругосветное плавание. В апреле 2017 года барк «Седов» был передан Калининградскому государственному техническому университету и сменил порт приписки с Мурманска на Калининград. В 2019–2020 гг. участвовал в кругосветной экспедиции парусников Росрыболовства, посвящённой 200-летию открытия Антарктиды и 75-летию Победы в Великой Отечественной войне. За время экспедиции на судне прошли практику более 350 курсантов учебных заведений Росрыболовства. The Sedov is a four-masted barque built in 1921 in Germany.
