Description: HANDWROUGHT 1925 ARTS & CRAFTS STERLING SILVER CASED SWISS TRAVEL CLOCK BY PRESTIGIOUS NEW YORK CITY SILVERSMITH & JEWELER THEODORE B. STARR, INC. A prized clock from my personal collection. Time has come for these horological gems to find new homes. Swiss travel and alarm clocks from the turn-of-the-century through the 1980s comprise a significant category of meritorious timepieces I've curated. Yes; that's Doug setting the time to welcome 1974. The heavy cushion-shape sterling case is generously proportioned. A beveled crystal in wide brass bezel protects the matte gilt oval dial with bold Arabic numbers signed "8 Days" and "Swiss." Rear of the hinged clock support panel is stamped Theodore B. Starr, Inc. and "4 sterling 25." Although the case is devoid of decoration, it displays premier workmanship and jewelry grade finishing. The 8-day movement is the earliest (and best grade) Concord works I've encountered in half a century servicing Swiss clocks. NOTE: This year the movement was completely disassembled (including removal of mainspring from barrel), ultrasonically cleaned and rinsed, elements meticulously checked for wear, pivots polished, reassembled and lubricated with high-grade Swiss grease and two viscosity oils. The silver case was cleaned and hand polished to high luster. Professional bench restoration services typically carry a labor charge of $425. Interesting Factoid Dials of 19th century bedside and folding travel clocks were often gilded to reflect limited (candle or oil lamp) light, enabling time to be read at night. Similarly, frames containing important works of art were gilded throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Please review descriptive information and study the photographs for details. Thanks!
