In red cloth-covered boards. Title in blue on spine, with blue and gold block on cover. Some wear and soiling to covers and top and bottom of spine. Spine and top of boards are in good shape save for some wear and a small hole at the base of the spine. See photo. Inside covers and end papers foxed. Very Good condition overall. Lacking dust jacket, but overall the edition is in very good condition. Clean boards with moderate corner wear, light edge wear, some light soiling inside covers, but otherwise there are 160 clean and solidly bound pages, and amazingly illustrated by Saul Raskin. Includes a typed sales letter signed by Raskin with his rubber stamp as well as a postscript in Yiddish/Hebrew. The author writes: "To me the Book of Psalms was a sweet dream to join with my pictorial accompaniment the other instruments of the Psalmists, the cymbals, organs and harps in praising the Lord, praising Him with my brush, engraver's needle, pen and pencil. The dream is now a reality." Raskin was born in Nogaysk, Russia. At the age of 15 he studied lithography in Odessa and later attended art academies in Germany, France, Italy and Switzerland. After emigrating to the United States in 1904 he became a multifaceted artist and produced etchings, paintings, watercolors and even cartoons.
