Description: ★ UNIQUE N RARE - vintage japanese kimono fabric - sold by the meter - SAYAGATA KASURI ★ SAYAGATA : an interlocking set of manji from ancient Buddhist lore that represents life and strength that have been used across many cultures for thousands of years. The symbol came to Japan around the 1500s, and is linked with the Buddhist concept of eternity. Kasuri is the Japanese name for the resist dyeing technique called ikat in other parts of the world. Threads were bundled and portions of the thread bundles were covered with dye-resistant material so that the dye could not penetrate before the fabric was woven.
