Scarce 1935 MODERN MASTERS OF PHOTOGRAPHY Portfolio 36 of 37 Loose Plates in Box

Description: A very good copy of Modern Masters of Photography published by The Galleon Press of New York in 1935. The item consists of a clamshell box containing the title page, a contents page, a two page introduction , and 36 of 37 loose sheets. Only the print by Harold Fowler is missing. Early major photographers like Margaret Bourke-White, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Arnold Genthe, Rockwell Kent, and George Platt Lynes are all represented. Despite the 30's publication date, most of the sheets are photographic reproductions. Each sheet measures about 11 by 14 inches, though the size of the printed image varies. Most are matte black and whites. A few are blue toned, including the striking landscape by Rockwell Kent. A few are sepia. A few are glossy. Almost all are landscapes and portraits. All plates are clean, with no foxing or water stains. All plates are age toned, except for the glossies. The clamshell box is pretty good. Several tears to the lid, with one 1 inch loss along the top edge. Just a small piece of the ribbon tie left. It's a very hard to find item at this price.
