Description: Schumann Bavaria Charger Plate 12" Wild Rose Pink with Gold Leaves 1955-1960 Exquisite Decorative CHARGER PLATE 12" from Schumann in Arzberg, Bavaria, WILD ROSE Pattern on Scalloped & Embossed PORCELAIN w/GOLD Trim on Rim & GOLD Overlay on Red Leaves, circa 1955-1960 DESCRIPTION: The beautiful hand decorated charger plate was produced with beautiful wild roses on the high white porcelain with gold trim on the scalloped & embossed rim. The design looks so classic. This makes a beautiful display charger or can be used everyday. The color palette used is: pink, green, blue, yellow, red and gold. The wild roses are beautifully presented with their green leaves and thorny vines. Three sets of the 3 red leaves have been overlayed with gold veining. There are also scattered sprays of gold leaf sprigs. The grey and pink ghost leaves and buds add depth to the design. The background washes vary from pink to blue to yellow. CONDITION: While this charger plate is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks. There is no wear to the gold or colors. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The charger plate has a diameter of 12" and a height of 1 1/4". HISTORY/MARKS: The factory was founded in 1881 by Christian Heinrich Schumann in Arzberg, Bavaria after being forced to close his previous pottery (founded 1876) due to the development of a rail road through the factory. Upon his death, the pottery was run by his widow until his youngest son, Carl Schumann I, married in 1896 and assumed management. The company was incorporated in July of 1923. In 1926, Carl’s son, who had been studying in America, assumed leadership after his father’s untimely death at 55. After WWII, the pottery flourished, but never regained its prior success as Japanese products flooded the American & European markets. The business stayed in the family until it was closed in 1994. The mark on this set is identified by the website PM&M (porcelainmarksandmore) as mark #3-45 which was used in the 1955-1960 time period.
