Description: Senegal West Africa 1836 Tardieu Perrot rare miniature map Double Impression Senegal. (Old Maps, 19th Century Maps, Africa, West Africa, Senegal, Gambia, Sahara Desert. Issued Paris, c.1836 by Perrot. Engraved by Pierre Tardieu. Uncommon and charming little mid-19th century antique map. Almost primitive looking, engraved with original inexpert outline hand color utterly unique to the era and method of hand production. Highly unusual printed image in that it clearly shows two different impressions from the engraved plate! Noteworthy for the scarcity factor, from a pocket sized atlas which had a small circulation and is therefore rarely encountered as a loose map today. Sheet displays small minor signs of age, light evidence of some handling, printed slightly askew on the sheet and issued thus, but overall still clean and well preserved. A scarce little antique map with fine patina and historical cartographic appeal. Sheet measures c. 10 1/2" W x 7" H. Printed area measures c. 7 3/8" W x 5 5/8" H. Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers, vol. 3, p. 407 and vol. 4, p. 247. [B12590].
