Description: This green, 2-Sen, Japanese postal stationery card(with rounded corners, some stains on either side, numerous creases of various sizes, and one tear) was sent(as a forerunner of sorts!) as a New Year's card in early January 1897, from the Imperial Japanese Post Office in Shanghai, China, to Osaka City, Japan, by a Japanese national. It appears to have arrived on January 7th. Admittedly, the purple, English-language, CDS cancel from the Imperial Japanese Post Office in Shanghai is not as legible as one would like. CDSs from I.J.P.Os. in China are notorious(in my experience!) for not coming out too clearly when applied! Noted imperfections aside, this remains a nifty piece of Japanese and Chinese postal history!
