Description: You are purchasing a: Sheila's Wood Figurine Décor THOMAS POINT LIGHT Chesapeake Bay, Maryland - 1825 Shipping growth in the Chesapeake Bay convinced the government of building the first small tower on Thomas Point not far from Annapolis in 1824. Due to poor construction it had to be torn down. Winslow Lewis, a contractor reconstructed the second lighthouse. Even though it had a weak light it guarded the point for more than thirty years. In 1875, the present light house was built offshore, placing it where it would be most effective - out in the bay over the treacherous shoals. This hexagon-shaped lighthouse stands perched on screw piles. It has weathered everything nature has thrown at it. Accessible only by boat, it still remains active.
