Description: My research on this tells me this is a rare M1878 haversack, also known as an 1898 US Army Haversack used in the 1898 Spanish American War. Later models had S hooks attached to the D-rings and this one has the classic hook attached to the D-ring rather than the S-hook, confirming it is a rare early model. Many were reissued during WWI.
