Mikey and his brother were dumped at a feral cat colony. Since all of our male cats were neutered and we had trapped our last female to be spayed, we have no idea who his cat parents are. He and his brother did not belong wandering around alone in the woods at such a young age so I rescued them and brought them to the veterinarian for an exam. We need your help caring for him and his brother. His brother prefers to be an outdoor cat while Mikey prefers both. It is difficult keeping them apart because they are inseparable. They needed to be neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and and their ongoing care which includes flea/tick drops. In this photo he is lounging outside in the cool grass.These photos were taken by me. It is common these days for people to simply let their unwanted house cats outside thinking they will care for themselves. This is not true! House cats intentionally placed outdoors have not developed the survival skills necessary to live outside. Sometimes their cat develops unwanted behaviors because they weren't spayed or neutered so they let their cat out and guess what happens? The female becomes pregnant and the male locates every fertile female in the neighborhood! Then, more kittens! Some of the cats in this colony were once someone's beloved pet who was betrayed and left outside. These special kitties were fortunate to form this colony yet every once in awhile another new cat comes to visit, or is dumped by others knowing these cats are well cared for, then stays. It is very expensive feeding and caring for so many so many cats.We also spend a lot of time building shelters and homes for them with large plastic or Rubbermaid(R) boxes, duct tape, insulation and straw. When we can financially, we purchase a larger cat or dog house so many cats can sleep together, sheltered from the rain and snow.I know it's tough for a lot of people out there economically.
