As a child, he seemed naturally inclined to prayer and was amongst the first in his class at school, and served Mass each morning. After completing school, he entered the Novitiate and became a Salesian. In 1922 Bishop Versiglia was in Turin who spoke of the missions to the Brothers. Callistus told him: "Bishop, you will see me in China". In 1929, he was in Shiuchow, China, where Bishop Versiglia ordained him priest and entrusted him with the mission at Linchow. In a short time he had visited all the families and earned the sympathy of the school children. On Feb 25, 1930, he accompanied Bishop Versiglia to Lin Chow. With them were two teachers, two women catechists and a girl pupil. The group was set upon by communist pirates in an isolated area along the river. In their attempts to protect the young women, who managed to get away, the two missionaries were brutally beaten and then shot, in hatred for the Christian faith which exalts virginity. Before they were killed they heard one another's confessions. Their last breath was spent for their beloved China. Pope St John Paul II beatified them as Salesian Protomartyrs in 1983 and canonized them in 2000.
The prayer cards which come with our rosaries, medals and pictures are home-made, created using a "greeting card" program on a computer and printed in full color on nice quality paper. Although they are not like the usual smaller professionally printed prayer cards, most of our customers prefer them since they are like a pamphlet with 4 "pages" and several images, prayers, patronages and often other information about the saint or Catholic devotion.
