Stamp of Russia 2005 - 2024 - Lighthouses in Russia (19 stamps)

Description: STAMP OF RUSSIA 2005 - 2024 - Lighthouses in Russia. (19 stamps) The Mudyug lighthouse marked the beginning of the history of the White Sea lighthouses. The 41 meter high brick tower was built on the southern coast of Mudyug Island in the 19th century. In 14 kerosene lamps, fish oil was burned instead of kerosene - this was more economical. The Solovetsk lighthouse is located on Sekirnaya Gora - the highest point of the Solovetsk Island and is the largest lighthouse in the White Sea. Its height is 123 meters above sea level, and the light is visible for almost 22 miles. The lighthouse receives electricity from diesel engines, and the wind turbine, which is on the site next to it, is a spare energy source. It is noteworthy that the lighthouse is installed above the church, the head drum of which passes into the dome, and under the dome is the famous Solovetsky lighthouse. In the summer months, during the white nights, the lighthouse does not work, but in December there are days when the lamp hardly turns off. The Svyatonos lighthouse became the northernmost, most remote lighthouse in Russia, and the living conditions there were the most unfavorable. There were no land roads, ships stopped at the cape extremely rarely and only in good weather. There was practically no connection with life on the mainland, except for one or two voyages a year of a hydrographic vessel with provisions from Arkhangelsk.Since ancient times, the Cape Svyatoi Nos was considered a guiding rock separating the White and Barents Seas, so the construction of the lighthouse was only a recognition of the need for such in connection with the development of navigation. In 2002, the Committee for Culture and Art of the Murmansk Region included the Svyatonos lighthouse in the "List of newly identified objects in the Murmansk region of scientific or other artistic value."Height from the base is 22 meters, height above sea level 94 meters, visibility range 22 miles. The Kaninsky lighthouse began its service in 1915 and was a round iron tower with a height of 3.6 meters. The height of the fire above sea level was only 47 meters, the visible light range was only 12 miles. A radiotelegraph station was built near the lighthouse, both buildings were served by telegraph operators. The station was soon closed, and there was no one to service the facility. Until 1922, it was in complete desolation. Since 1922, the Kaninsky lighthouse has been illuminating the vastness of the Arctic Ocean for fifty long years. The Kaninsky lighthouse is located on the border of the White Sea and the Barents Sea. It is the main escort point for ships of the Northern Route in this area. The lighthouse has been rebuilt and now has a tower 23 meters high, the appearance of a truncated tetrahedral pyramid, painted in stripes of white and black. The skylight has a height of 75 meters above sea level and is visible to ships up to 22 miles away. For signaling in fog, the lighthouse has a nautophone and a sound signaling installation. A circular radio beacon was built near the lighthouse. Kildinsky north lighthouse - The large island of Kildin lies 11 miles east of the mouth of the Kola Bay in the Barents Sea. The northern top of the island - Likhoi cliff - is an almost vertical cliff up to 180 m above sea level; to the east of it, the coast is steep almost everywhere, but gradually decreases and has a drying reef at the lower edge of the cliff. On the northern coast of the island, the lighthouse was built in 1931. It was a temporary structure. In the late 1930s, it was planned to replace it with a capital stone lighthouse. However, the Great Patriotic War prevented this from happening, and the lighthouse stood in this form until the end of the war. In 1953 it was rebuilt. On the site of the temporary structure, a round reinforced concrete tower 19 m high with a lamppost and a modern electric rotating apparatus of the EMV-930 type was erected. In 1991, a KRM-300 radio beacon was installed on the lighthouse. The lighthouse tower is painted with white and red horizontal stripes. Height from the base is 19 meters, visibility range 18 miles. Vaydagub lighthouse installed at the northwestern tip of the Rybachiy Peninsula. Provides navigation along the western coast of the Kola Peninsula and on the approach to Vaida Bay. Since ancient times, Pomeranian fishermen have exchanged the fish they caught for the goods they need, which were brought here by the Finns and Norwegians. The lip from the sea is inconspicuous, the entrance to it was found along the adjacent capes, in particular, the German one - a small sloping ledge to the west of Waida Bay. But this is during the day. At night, the ships were afraid to enter the lip and waited for dawn on the open sea. In 1894, the White Sea Lighthouse Directorate decided to install a light beacon on the cape 2 km from the entrance to the bay. In 1896 he began to act.Height from the base is 29 meters, height above sea level 62 meters, visibility range 20 miles. The Tarkhankut and the Chersonesus Lighthouses is located on the Black Sea coast of the Crimea peninsula (Ukraine). They are called “twin-brothers” because they both were built in 1816 by one and the same design and they were put into service in June 1817 after installation of parabolic reflectors that were delivered from St. Petersburg. The Chersonesus Lighthouse belongs to Sevastopol, it is located on the most western point of the city. During the Great Patriotic war the lighthouse was completely destroyed and built anew in 1950-1951 by the military engineers of the Black Sea Fleet. The white architecturally styled reinforced-concrete lighthouse’s tower topped by a huge glassed-in lantern construction is 36 metres high. The tower is coated with Inkerman limestone. The Chersonesus Lighthouse is known by the seamen by the signal letters “SB” that is short of “Sevastopol”. The lighthouse transmits this two-letter identifier in Morse code every night. The Tarkhankut Lighthouse is made of the Inkerman limestone. The lighthouse is about 40 metres high and it can be seen from afar off. It is a conical stone tower topped by a wooden hexagonal-shaped lantern construction. The lighthouse was built so qualitatively that in the past 200 years there was held only cosmetic repairs. Tolbukhin lighthouse One of the oldest lighthouses in Russia was included in the list of monuments of the cultural heritage of St. Petersburg. Fantastic beautiful building is located near the island of Kotlin and is easily visible for many kilometers. This lighthouse, which turns 300 years old this year, was built on the order of Peter the Great and initially it was a wooden structure. But in 1807 it was rebuilt and named after Colonel Fedot Semenovich Tolbukhin, the commander of the Kronschlot garrison, who distinguished himself in the defense of Kotlin during the Northern War.All last year, the lighthouse stood in the woods - the restoration work dedicated to its anniversary ended only at the end of last year. The Yeni-Kale lighthouse is located on Cape Fonar, the easternmost point of the Crimean peninsula at the entrance to Kerch Strait. In 1820, in order to enable the ship passage via Kerch Strait, a lighthouse was built, named after the Yeni-Kale fortress 5 km away to the south. The Meganom lighthouse is located in the southernmost part of Cape Meganom, in the wildest stretch of the Crimean coast; it is the most hard to access lighthouse in terms of distance. The lighthouse on Meganom was put into operation in 1895 on the order of Emperor Alexander II. The Tsypnavoloksky lighthouse was built in 1896. It is located at the northeastern tip of the Rybachiy Peninsula on Cape Tsypnavolok, past which there are sea routes connecting the ports of the Kola Bay, the White Sea and the rivers of Siberia with western countries. The Teribersky lighthouse was commissioned in 1896. It is located at the northwestern tip of the oblong rocky Kola Peninsula. The Gelendzhik Front Range Lighthouse is the oldest working lighthouse on the Black Sea coast. It is a monument of architecture. The Front Range Lighthouse is located in Gelendzhik at the address: 1 Mayachnaya Street, Lermontovsky Boulevard. The lightnouse was built on August 19, 1897. The author of the building is considered to be French architect François Joseph de Tonde. Range lighthouses, unlike identification beacons, which are used to indicate a point or danger, always work in pairs. They point to a certain line and warn sailors of a necessity to change course. Range lighthouses are built in different heights. The rear range of a lighthouse is always higher. The one on the quay is the front range, closest to the ship. The tower of the lighthouse is provided with a built-in box with shutters, which are, in fact, the ranges that gave the name to this type of lighthouses. These ranges cover the light of green and red lanterns. The green light signals that the ship is to the right of the safe area for the ships approaching the shore, and the red light signals that the ship is to the left of that area. In this way, lighthouses regulate a safe entry into the bays. The Krasny Partizan Lighthouse came into operation on July 14, 1897, and until 1926, it had the name of the Nikolaevskii Lighthouse. The author of the project and the main builder of the lighthouse was engineer in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel K. Leopold. The building of the lighthouse is located on the shore of the Tatar Strait, 60 meters from the shoreline and 12 km from the town of Sovetskaya Gavan. The one-story, rectangular in plan building was constructed of granite blocks. On the eastern side of the building, there is a triangular tower of the lighthouse cut into the building space. In 1919, during the Civil War, a battle between the partisans and the White Guards punitive forces took place near the lighthouse. In memory of these events, the cape and the lighthouse were renamed Red Partisan, and in 1926, a memorial obelisk was mounted on the place of the execution. The lighthouse is registered in the list of objects of cultural heritage of Russia. The postage stamps feature the Gelendzhik Front Range Lighthouse against the background of the map of Gelendzhik Bay in the Black Sea and the wind rose and the Krasny Partizan lighthouse against the background of the map of Cape Krasny Partizan in the Tatar Strait and the wind rose. Gorodetsky lighthouse was put into operation in 1898. It is located on the coast of the White Sea in the northeastern part of the Kola Peninsula. Currently, it is a multifunctional complex, which includes a light beacon in the form of a yellow stone tower towering over a red one-story house, a technical building with equipment, two semi-detached residential buildings, fuel and lubricants warehouses and household buildings. The height of the tower from the base is 18 m, and from sea level - 55 m. The lighthouse shines with a white flashing light at a distance of 26 miles. Sarych lighthouse was founded in 1898. Located on the Black Sea coast in the southwestern part of the Crimean peninsula. It is a cast-iron white tower 12 m high, resembling a giant chess piece. The total height of the structure is 37.5 m. It is equipped with modern equipment, a navigation system and radio equipment. The white light of the lighthouse is revealed to ships from a distance of more than 20 miles. The postage stamps depict the Gorodetsky lighthouse against the background of a map of the Kola Peninsula and the wind rose, and the Sarych lighthouse against the background of a map of the Crimean Peninsula and the wind rose. The Ilyinsky Lighthouse (the Feodosia lighthouse) is a lighthouse on St. Elijah Cape on the eastern coast of Crimea, not far from Feodosia. It was built in 1899. During the Great Patriotic War, the Lighthouse on St. Elijah Cape was destroyed in one of the numerous battles. In 1956, the building of the lighthouse on St. Elijah Cape was restored, and in this form, it has survived to this day. Today, it looks like a 15 m high white stone tower with windows arranged in three tiers. The Povorotny Lighthouse is a lighthouse on Povorotny Cape at the northern tip of Mayachny Island in Vyborg Bay. It was built in 1924. It is a 13 m high white octagonal tower with a red lantern structure. The Lighthouse light is flashing; depending on the sector, it flickers green, red or white light at a height of 18 m above sea level. The signal visibility range is from 2 miles (green) to 7 miles (white). The postage stamps provide images of the Ilyinsky Lighthouse against the background of the map of the Crimean Peninsula and the wind rose, and the Povorotny Lighthouse against the background of the map of Vyborg Bay and the wind rose.
