Opphav is Norwegian for "origin" and the founders in this case set about making a refreshing, stately, integrated bracelet all purpose timepiece with an expensive to produce textured, fume dial. With that in mind, some additional considerations about this watch include: 1. This watch is a contemporary man's size at 40mm works well on average and larger male wrists and as an oversized but cool play for a female as well. I can recommend this watch for somebody with a wrist size of 6+1/2 inches in circumference and larger. I have an average size wrist and this watch works well. It is a perfect - absolutely perfect - sized for a modern timepiece. In the very monochrome stainless steel and rich, fantastic green forest colorway, the timepiece wears true to form. 2. The integrated bracelet --- very, very well done and a big part of the value proposition for these timepieces --- on this watch goes well with the relatively svelt height of the timepiece. It all works fantastically. This is a super comfortable and interesting watch. Note that if you bought one of these on leather and then looked to add the bracelet later then you will come out of pocket a fair bit. The bracelet is the way to go with this one for sure. 3. The "forest green" fume radiant dial is super interesting, an approach and multi-level dial treatment that is clearly time-consuming and expensive and frankly it adds a combination of luxury, sporting ethos and distinction to the timepiece. Flipping this beauty over and the exhibition caseback encourages closer examination of the movement and the Norwegian artwork across the bridge in particular. The green dial is a play on a tribute to one of the natural elemental influences in Norway, the forest. And of course the hands and hour indicators are raised, sit high and bring a refreshing design element to the watch. Striking on many levels. 4. This watch is one that is impressive, in part, through addition by subtraction. Three hands with a clarity of purpose and beauty. Like the best of Scandanavian design it skews towards minimalism but still remains interesting, vibrant and warm. The integrated case and bracelet bring a modern minimalist Genta-esque sensibility. Anti-glare coated saphire crystal ensures maximum visibility of the standout feature: the dial. It all adds up to an impressive, rare and interesting fine Swiss made timepiece. It looks, feels and acts every bit of a $4K+ fine watch. 5. I personally love simple 3-hand timekeeping via a traditional sweep seconds hand and this one executes that design very well. 6. The lume is also stunning on this one. Think of it as bright like the Northern Lights. 7. The bracelet is a thing of beauty. While this fine timepiece was also produced with a fine leather strap, the more versatile and value-packed play is to get one of these with the expensive and expensive to produce integrated bracelet. The use of brushed and polished finishing for the timepiece and the bracelet really does a great job of bringing "wrist presence" from any angle. 8. Full set collateral, as pictured in the "everything picture" (#2) rounds out this listing. I like how Straum stays away from big storage boxes and instead gives you something that you will actually use. The high-quality travel case is very much in keeping with the "less is more" and "fit for purpose... yet beautiful" design ethos.
