Description: STRAY SHOTS & POT LUCK Roland Clark PREMIER PRESS leather LIMITED signed HUNTING STRAY SHOTS & POT LUCK Roland Clark PREMIER PRESS leather LIMITED signed HUNTING Click images to enlarge Description STRAY SHOTS & POT LUCK by Roland Clark was published by the PREMIER PRESS in 1986. ********************************************** The PREMIER PRESS was a publisher of classic North American hunting and fishing sporting books that were published over a 15-year period by John Culler & Sons, from 1983-1997. The titles in the series include original works by active sport hunters and anthologies that contained selections from both contemporary hunters and classic works. The titles are limited to 3000 copies and were sold by subscription, however it should be noted that in virtually all cases, fewer that the stated 3,000 printings of the specified limited edition were printed, in fact in most cases the print run might not have been more than half or even a third of that number. Each title was beautifully bound in full gild decorated LEATHER smyth-sewn bindings with raised bands, marbled end papers, sewn-in-silk page markers, with all edges gilt. In many editions you will find great PHOTOGRAPHS from the authors personal collection or from other private collections, while in others you will find ILLUSTRATIONS from artists that capture the feel of the stories. These titles as long out of print. ********************************** STRAY SHOTS & POT LUCK are two of Roland Clark's best bird-hunting books. If you could spend most of your time doing what you wanted to do, you would have to admit you were pretty lucky. Such a per person is Roland Clark. From early childhood he was obsessed with ducks and geese, and he hunted them throughout his life with guns and a remembering eye. In his writing he extols the skill of his shooting companions and admits to sometimes missing his birds. But his remembering eye missed little, as his paintings and etchings bear witness. As a teller of tales that grip the hearts of men who go out in the early dawn and cast their decoys on rosy waters, or tramp the frosty uplands, he is hard to surpass. From his boyhood days, his lifelong passion was game birds, especially waterfowl. His illustrations of birds in their natural environment are astonishing lifelike, even in his early sketches. He was an ardent hunter and his art depicts game birds as the hunter actually saw them, so it's not surprising that hunters are his most ardent admirers. ********************************** Illustrated throughout with NUMEROUS black and white etchings and color paintings (protected by glassine wraps) by ROLAND CLARK. ********************************** Beautiful BURGUNDY leather; spine with three raised bands lettered in gilt; front cover gilt stamped with a picture of ducks, marbled endpapers, silk ribbon marker, and all edges gilt. ******************************** THE BOOK IS IN FINE CONDITION. **************************** LIMITED EDITION OF #1753/3000 COPIES. ************************* -6 1/2 by 9 1/2". -123 and 92 pages. -foreward by Ernest S. Hickok. ********************************************* STRAY SHOTS is Roland Clark's first autobiographical collection of stories and essays, first published in 1931, where as POT LUCK is his third collection of short stories, first published in 1945. The idea of combining both these books into a single volume was a great idea. I envy those of you who read them for the first time. As I said in the beginning, Roland Clark was a lucky man. Now you can be lucky, too. This book can take its prideful place alongside worthy titles in THE PREMIER COLLECTION. ********************************** NOTE: any glare is from my camera, not the book.
