Whilst attacking an Egyptian airfield, it suffered flak damage. It was hit under the forward fuselage, blasting a large hole in the floor of the cockpit and injuring the aircraft’s navigator, Fg Officer Robert Olding, an RAF officer on an exchange tour with the Fleet Air Arm. Despite suffering severe shrapnel wounds to his legs he continued with his duties, and thanks to some skilful flying from its pilot, Lt Cdr John Willcox, they made a successful belly landing on return to HMS Eagle.
