The name Cilo is an acronym for Charles Jean Lausanne Oron. The J was replaced by an I, as the French pronunciation made this necessary. In the 1940s-50s, professional cyclists such as Ferdy Kübler, road world champion in 1946, and Hugo Koblet, Tour de France winner in 1950, were under contract. From 1980-86 Cilo had very famous and successful riders like Beat Breu, Daniel Gisiger and Tony Rominger in the Cilo-Aufina pro team. This Cilo is a genuine Cilo Aufina Team racing bike. Constructed by the in-house frame builder Ciusani. Ciusani was a professional with Bianchi in 1946 and later emigrated to Switzerland and worked for Cilo in Lausanne. He was a master frame builder and built custom frames to customer specifications and the custom frames for the Cilo Aufina pro teams. This frame was built from the best and lightest Reynolds 753 frame tubes. Special features are the larger diameter seat stays and the connection to the seat sleeve. The bottom bracket is from Cinelli, has a small square opening and the name Ciusani is stamped next to the frame number. Only team bikes have eyelets soldered into the down tube and seat tube for the bidon holders.
