Description: [zipedit] SwedenEvent Publicity Poster StampPublicity poster stamp issued for the first Världsmästerskapen i Kanot (World Canoe Championships), held in Stockholm, Sweden, August 6-7, 1938. According to Wikipedia: Canoeing is a sport practiced with canoes. Within the term there are several branches such as canoe slalom, freestyle, kayaking, canoe polo, canoe sailing, sprint racing and marathon. The disciplines canoe slalom and racing are included in the Summer Olympics. One normally competes in one-man, two-man and four-man kayaks (K1, K2 and K4 respectively) and in Canadians, one-man, two-man and four-man (C1, C2 and C4 respectively), but other canoe disciplines also occur such as outrigger (1-6 people ) and dragon boat (12 or 22 people). The first International Canoe Federation, IRK, was founded in 1924 with Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Austria as member countries. At this time, long-distance paddling without a competitive element was an important part of canoeing, largely driven by the wider Swedish image of sports. International competitions began in earnest during the 1930s, and it was Czechoslovakia that organized the first EC competitions held in 1933. The first official world championships in canoeing were organized in Sweden by Vaxholm's Canoe Society in 1938. At that time, competitions were held in one- and two-man kayaks and in folding boats. The distances were 1,500 meters and 10,000 meters. The first time that canoeing became an Olympic sport was in 1936 in the Berlin Olympics. When the Second World War had ended, representatives from twelve different countries gathered in 1946 on Bosön in Stockholm to jointly form the International Canoe Federation, now under the name ICF (International Canoe Federation). The first president of the ICF was the Swede Jonas Asschier, who was the Swedish Canoe Federation's chairman at the time. The stamp depicts a man paddling a one-man kayak, and was printed in sheets of 12 with no margins, so most stamps have at least one straight-edge. This example is F/VF, OG, NH. Approximate Image Size: 47 x 37 mm. * STOCK IMAGE DUE TO RECENT NON-DELIVERY CLAIMS - EXTRA FEES FOR SHIPPING MAY BE REQUIRED FOR SOME ADDRESSES. Please inquire if you have any questions. Any lot with tracking WILL include details of contents and value for customs purposes. After 35+ years I decided to retire from being an active Cinderella Stamp dealer. Most of my working inventory plus backup stock was sold at public auction. However, I have retained some material that I will be offering for sale. In addition, I have some "new" material that was mixed into lots I have bought for my own collections. I will be listing some of the material in my eBay store at fixed prices. I will also be offering some material at auction, either as single items or mixed lots. There will be many bargains available. There will be large and small lots, some containing similar material, some containing a random mixture, and some containing only one or a few items. The condition will be mixed, but none of the lots will be just accumulations of damaged or faulty stamps (unless specifically listed as such). Items in stockpage or larger lots may be removed and repackaged into glassines to save on shipping costs. A Note about Poster Stamps and Gum: Because many poster stamp collectors are primarily interested in the image on the stamp, the absence or presence of gum on the back is of little concern. If no mention of gum is made, then there may or may not be gum present. If you are only interested in poster stamps with original gum, please inquire before bidding. Actual condition issues (that are not apparent from the scan) WILL be described. * A Note about "Stock Images": Occasionally I will have more than one example of an item in inventory. Rather than scan each one individually, I may use the same image for multiple examples of the item. If that is the case, the item supplied will be in substantially the same, or better, condition than the image. Any such items will have the words: "STOCK IMAGE" at the end of the description.
