Description: T. Elsmore & Son Brown Chinoiserie Transferware Plate - 1878 We are pleased to offer this lovely brown and white transferware Staffordshire Pottery salad plate in the Butterfly & Fan pattern manufactured by Thomas Elsmore & Sons, Clayhills Pottery, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent England circa 1872-1887. This company produced stunning pieces of earthenware, parian and other wares highly sought after by collectors of Staffordshire Pottery today. This salad plate measures 7-7/8" in diameter. It is marked with the British Registry diamond indicating that the design was registered on May 14, 1878 - at the height of the Aesthetic Movement that corresponded to the Arts and Crafts Movement in America. It also has the Elsmore & Son backstamp and an impressed PG. The design features a variety of Asian/chinoiserie motifs including an oriental fan with butterflies, a stylized central urn on a stand, a small folding screen, bits of Chinese fretwork, bamboo and exotic flowers - all adding to the Aesthetic décor.. This same, hard-to-find pattern, was also produced in multi-color, red and blue. This Staffordshire plate is in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. Just a lovely piece of vintage Victorian era Staffordshire Pottery that you are sure to want to add to your collection. Thanks for viewing our sale. If you have any questions, feel free to email.
