The Best of Isaac Asimov (Signed) (Science Fiction) (1974 First US Edition)

Description: Condition Continued: The front end paper has a faded very tiny square impression, perfectly smooth. There are a few tiny amber spots just peeking over the end paper's top edge. The half-title page has a thin tan vertical coloring just adjacent to its juncture with the verso of the blank front end paper. It also has a very light vertical tanning or toning over part of the page, the kind of thing you see you when a bookmark is left lying in place. The rear inside cover has one very light and small tan spot. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through the text a number of times, I haven't found any instances of soiling. I haven't found any instances of turned-down corners or placeholder creases. There are no markings in the book. No attachments. And the author's signature represents the only writing to be found anywhere. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. I have always had it in a fitted protective cover. The jacket has a few imperfections, a thin tear off the front top edge, a thin horizontal crease as well, a 1 1/2" tear off the top edge of the middle edge, the one between the front cover and front flap, two small losses off the bottom edge of the spine, a very small tear off the top edge of the rear, and a couple of very small spots of rubbing. The jacket is clean, one thin tan spot on the rear cover which the scanned photo accentuates in a way the naked eye does not. The flaps are in solid shape. There is a light, thin line of toning off their top and bottom edges. The jacket is price-clipped at the front flap's top corner. That's the only clip. The publishers $10.95 price sticker is off the top edge of the front flap. Doubleday & Company, Garden City, New York, 1974. Stated First Edition. The book was first published in England in 1973 so this is the First US Edition. Isaac Asimov flat-signed the book under his name on the title page (see photo). ISBN: 038505078X.From the dust jacket: 'Isaac Asimov offers in this collection twelve of the best stories he has written over the past thirty-five years. Ingenuity of plot and style is a regular feature in these fascinating, often provocative tales of space and time. 'Marooned Off Vesta', for instance, the first fiction Asimov ever published, is a prime example of the versatility of his imagination. It tells of three men in a spaceship only three hundred miles from Vesta-- with no way to reach it.His well-known 'Nightfall' probes the reactions of a planet to the darkness of night which falls only once in two thousand years.Asimov gives his solution to the dissipation of the energy of the Universe in 'The Last Question'-- a solution so disturbing that readers will never forget this unique story. 'The Dying Night' is a science fiction-mystery tale with that delightful armchair detective, Wendell Urth; three scientists; and murder. And there is a long-awaited reunion between R. Daniel Olivaw and Lije Baley in 'Mirror-Image', concerning two robots who lie about their masters. Here is a pièce de résistance for Asimov's many devoted followers.'
