Description: This is a heliogravure facsimile of a 1544 copper engraving by Dirk Van Star titled The Deluge. These come from a rare folio set of prints sold by Bernard Quaritch in London in 1892. They were printed by the Imperial Press in Berlin under the direction of Dr. Friedrich Lippmann. No more than 100 and perhaps as few as 80 sets of the various prints of old masters were produced. Originally there were 10 folio sections with over 500 prints. We could find very little info on these prints other than in some old booksellers and auction catalogs's from the 20's that stated they are the best copies of the original prints ever produced! All the prints have a stamp to the rear so no one would be fooled into thinking they were the originals. With the originals almost unattainable these are also quite rare and at 132 years old are antiques in their own right. They are printed on thick laid rag paper with deep plate marks and you can feel the ink lines. The title page is just for reference.
