THE FLY Original 1958 Complete (8) Lobby Card Set, 11" x 14" Each, C8 Very Fine

Description: This is the Original (1sh) 1958 Complete Lobby Card Set of THE FLY. They were used by 20th Century Fox to promote this movie when it was released in 1958. They are not reprints nor reproductions. The movie stars Al (David) Hedison, Patricia Owens, Vincent Price, Herbert Marshall, Kathleen Freeman, Betty Lou Gerson, and Charles Herbert. It was directed by Kurt Neumann.These unrestored movie Lobby Cards each measure 11" x 14". They are Flat and are on medium stock paper. There are eight (8) Lobby Cards - the Tile Lobby Card (on the bottom right in the first picture above), and 7 other Lobby Cards, numbered 2 through 8. This original, complete Lobby Card set is graded C8, Very Fine. Original movie Lobby Cards are graded as follows from the top down: C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine), C7 (Fine/Very Fine), C6 (Fine or Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), C4 (Good), etc. These Lobby Cards are immediately ready for framing and display. (Continued Description of Flaws) LC 5 - Brownish marks on the along the bottom of the LC and to the left of "THE FLY". A 1/8" chip on the left border in the center. LC 6 - Brownish marks on the bottom left under "Property" and above "THE FLY". LC 7 - Brownish spots on the bottom right border and on the left border and to the right of "Atoms Gone Wild"; scraping and minor missing paper above the "OR" in "COLOR". Lc 8 - Brownish marks to the left of "Atoms" and to the right of "THE" in "THE FLY". All 8 Lobby Cards exhibit brown/tan/aging on the reverse of the Lobby Cards. Please review the photos as we tried to capture some of the flaws while getting pictures of all 8 Lobby Cards and the reverse (we are limited to 12 photos). The main flaw on all of the Lobby Cards are relatively faint brownish/tan marks. There is also browning on the surface of the reverse of all Lobby Cards although this does not show through to the front; the fronts have their own brownish marks. We believe these brownish marks to be "Foxing", which is the rust-brown colored flaws on paper. The exact cause of foxing is unknown, although it is believed to occur through certain acidic conditions and where the humidity is not controlled properly (original movie posters should be kept in a room where the humidity is between 40 to 60 degrees and the temperature is between 50 and 70 degrees). We do keep our inventory in a room like this but these THE FLY Lobby Cards had this condition when we purchased them from years ago). Professional framing of the Lobby Cards could help to alleviate, to some degree, these flaws along the borders. We believe that the main images on all of the Lobby Cards, even though they have some flaws, appear very clean at a normal viewing distance and under normal lighting. We considered restoration but felt that the cost to restore the Lobby Cards might exceed their value, not sure. Generally, Lobby cards have higher restoration costs than One Sheets as the Lobby Cards are on medium stock paper - One Sheets are on thinner paper - so the Lobby Cards require specialized restoration. Or at least that is what we have been told by at least one professional restoration company. We believe that the original, complete 1958 Lobby Card set of THE FLY has excellent value and investment value. Almost all sci-fi and horror movies from the fabulous two decades of the 1950s and 1960s carry excellent value and investment value on their movie posters, Lobby Cards, Window cards, etc. And they are always in high demand by collectors and fans alike. That said, I love the movie THE FLY. I know most people who do not like sci-fi and horror movies would never believe me when I say it is also a tragic love story. The chemistry between Patrici Owens and Al Hedison (later in his career called David) is superb and I think their characters are fully developed beyond just a horror movie. When young Phillippe catches the white-headed fly and then it escapes from his net, Ms. Owens' reaction is so real, so emotional, so sad. Three are a number of these scenes in the movie that demonstrate their true love for each other (in the movie) and their terrible angst at "Atoms gone wild".
