CARR FIRST EDITION FINE CONDITION PROTECTED IN A CLEAR, MYLAR DUST JACKET Original, Sharp, Bright, Clean, Tight, Antique Wrap/Booklet Frontispiece Illustration of General Carr PRIVATELY PRINTED IN 1917 The Hampton Roads Conference is a true story of the conference between Mr. Lincoln and William H. Seward on one side and Alexander Stephens and other Confederate Commissioners on the other side. It is a skillful refutation of the statement that Mr. Lincoln told Alexander Stephens that it he were permitted to write Union at the top, the South might fill in the balance. A demonstration that Mr. Stephens never made any such report. The author was a student at the University of North Carolina when he was drafted into the Confederate Army in 1863, interrupting his studies. He was later transferred to Company K, 41st Regiment of North Carolina (also known as the 3rd Regiment North Carolina Cavalry) where he served as a private. After the war he purchased one-third of the W.T. Blackwell and Company tobacco company. Car became one of the state’s wealthiest individuals engaging in successful textile, banking, railroad, public utility and newspaper endeavors. He was nominated for U.S. Vice President by the delegates from North Carolina in 1900. He was a long-time advocate for the welfare of Confederate veterans and widows.
