Description: The Herder is a 1911 antique Philip R. Goodwin print that was taken from "Collier's Magazine". It is 10.75" x 15” in overall size and 9 3/16" x 12 1/2" in image size. It is in fair condition with clear color and no fading, but there are spots in the image in the upper right corner and tears marks on the right side border. Please use the included photos as a condition guide. Philip R. Goodwin (1881–1935) was an American artist known for his dynamic depictions of wildlife, the outdoors, and adventure scenes. Goodwin's work became widely recognized through his illustrations for popular magazines, advertisements, and books, including classic works such as Jack London's Call of the Wild and Theodore Roosevelt's African Game Trails. Goodwin was particularly skilled at capturing the essence of outdoor life, often portraying hunters, fishermen, and wildlife in rugged, natural settings. His images conveyed a sense of action and adventure, and he became closely associated with the romantic vision of the American wilderness. He also collaborated with notable contemporaries, such as Charles M. Russell, and his art appeared on numerous advertisements, including those for the Winchester Repeating Arms Company and Brown & Bigelow calendars. Despite his commercial success, Goodwin remained relatively private and lived much of his later life in solitude.
