Description: Five volume hard cover set with cloth covered boards. This was a special edition circa early 20th century, published for subscription and not originally available as a complete set. Red cloth covered boards with leather corners and spines. Boards have light chipping and denting to all edges, grazing and denting to corners and spine ends. All boards have light grazing, occasional dent and smudge. spines ends are a little frayed. Gilt decoration to front and spines mostly in good condition, spines have a little sun fading. Text block edges have light foxing and occasional smudge. All spines are in good condition, with occasional loose hinge here or there, however all books remain intact. Text blocks are also intact, also with occasional loose hinge, all pages remain intact and firmly attached. First and last few pages of each volume have some foxing. Pages have occasional smudges or patch of foxing throughout all volumes. Pages otherwise in good condition and the huge majority of pages are clean. Beautifully illustrated throughout all five volumes with a mix of colour and black-and-white images and maps. Overall condition of this lovely set is very good.
