Description: You're bidding on a comic book lot:The Invisibles #1-7Volume 2DC/Vertigo 19977-issue lot/run The series had many different artists, most good storytellers, helping, against the odds, to provide some sense and stability amongst the constant stream of ideas flung at the reader. The best of them [include] Phil Jimenez (series one 17-19, series two 1-13, 15-22). Brian Bolland's covers for the second and third series offer another perception and are themselves a highlight of the title. Grant Morrison tries to make The Invisibles a receptacle for conspiracy theories and political ideology (primarily situationism), all suffused with magic and mysticism and innumerable references to cinema, music, literature, television and the events (real or imagined) that make tabloid headlines. He pushes the boundaries of accepted taste (at least within a “mainstream”’ series) with tantric sex rituals and ambiguous sexuality, with horror, violence and piercings. Throughout, the key to survival appears to be language, and this is where the series fails. Whilst it all makes a sort of sense at the end (depending on the reader's ability to suspend disbelief), there are plots to follow and there is even some characterization occasionally, Morrison's ideas aren't satisfying and they re not expressed particularly clearly. The reader is subjected to a great deal of information (and puns), but whilst it might have some context within The Invisibles, it has no context outside of Morrison's own fantasies.--The Slings & Arrows Comic Guide CONDITION: All books are Very Fine/Near Mint (VF/NM 9.0) or better except as noted below: #6: VF (8.0)#7: VF+ (8.5) All comic books are individually bagged and boarded.
