The book is "The Last Voyage, To India and Australia, in the 'Sunbeam.'" Written largely by the Late Lady Brassey and published by Longmans, Green and Co., New York, 1889. The book is rather scarce and only a SCARCE FEW copies can be found. The book is in Fair condition, at best. The spine is torn, hinges and center spine are cracked. Some of the illustrations are loose, but present. Some edges of the loose pages are chipped. It is all here--complete. Measures 6 1/2 X 9, 490 pages. Laid into this book is a letter hand written by English publisher, John Murray. Letter is dated, but I can't easily decipher the date (perhaps 13-3-34??). The letter is a response to a woman who wrote about some conflicting stories regarding Lady Brassey's death at sea. Writer of the original letter seems to suggest that the NY Times account of her death contradicts the details released by the publishers of the book. (A copy of the NY Times Obituary is actually adhered to the endpaper of the book). John Murray's response indicates that he was married to the daughter of Lord Brassey's second wife, Lady Brassey. He goes on to refute the NY Times account, and details the official ship's log of the Sunbeam which noted Lady Brassey's time of death and when her body was committed to the sea. He implores the writer to dispel the untrue version of the story if it is ever discussed in her presence in order to spare his wife unnecessary pain of hearing untruthful accounts of her mother's death.
