Description: This antique book "The Life of Samuel Johnson" by James Boswell was printed in 1835 by Spottiswoode in London. It has a brownish embossed leather hardcover, faded to plum, with gilt lettering on binding. 6 dimensions are 7 inches by 4 1/2 inches. It is written in the English language, and has some illustrations throughout each book. However, most of the illustrated pages show significant foxing. Plus there is some foxing throughoutt each of the books. And on the title page, one of its previous owners wrote their initials and the year 1946. One of the interesting things about this ten volume set is that it calls itself an eight volume set. However, we also have volumes nine and ten. If these books were in good or excellent shape, the set would be worth about $250. However, it has some bent edges on bindings. And in volume 1 and 2, the bookbinding is trying to separate from the pages. However, you will see an image showing some interesting words on the inside of the binding of volume 1. Please view all the pictures to see the quality and condition. The topic is historical and the subject is Samuel Johnson's life. This book is a collectible item for those interested in rare and antique books.
