Description: Ralph DeWitt (me) bought his first record in 1964. The Beatles had just appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, and Ralph gave his mom $5.00 to get their album for him, when she went shopping at "Atlantic Mills" in San Antonio. She brought back "Beatle Mania", and gave me $2.00 change. I knew the record was supposed to cost $4.98, but figured Mom was just a good shopper. I loved the record, although I didn't recognize most of the songs. Then, my dad picked up the cover and said, "This isn't even The Beatles, it's some other group!" I grabbed the cover and saw, in small letters, "The Liverpools". Mom had bought me a $2.98 knockoff LP. It didn't end there. I bought my next album myself, by my favorite group, The Beach Boys. When I took it home and played it on the family hi-fi, I was surprised to hear instrumental orchestra music. Again, my dad read, "Hits of The Beach Boys by the Hollyridge Strings". This LP was actually on Capitol, the Beach Boys label, and cost full price. I acted like that was what I meant to buy, but I think Dad knew better.
