Description: This is the Original (1sh) 1974 Bryanston movie poster THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. It was used by the Bryanston Distributing Company to promote this movie when it was released in 1974. It is not a reprint nor a reproduction. The movie stars Marilyn Burns, Allen Danzinger, Pail A. Partain, William Vail, Teri Mc Minn, Edwin Neal, and Gunnar Hanson (as Leatherface). THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE was directed by Tobe Hooper (in soaring hot temperatures and humidity).This original movie poster is rolled and linen backed and measures 27" x 41". With the linen, it measures about 1" extra around all borders. If you need exact dimensions with the linen, just let us know and we will get that for you. As we list more originals, we plan to revise this listing by adding the exact size with the linen. Prior to restoration and linen backing, the poster was Folded. Most original movie posters pre 1985 are Folded. This is not considered a flaw or defect.CONDITION DESCRIPTION (continued from above)These 2 conditions (2 small whitish patches at the two left corners and barely visible Fold lines, and only so at very close inspection under bright light) are totally unobtrusive even at a close viewing distance. There are no pin holes, no tears, and no tape or tape residue. There is no soiling or smudging. There is no loss of paper or color. The poster has a medium gloss. It's beautiful!!This original movie poster is graded C8.5, Very Fine/Near Mint. Original movie posters are graded as follows from the top down: C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine), C7 (Fine/Very Fine), C6 (Fine or Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), C4 (Good), etc. Our policy is to not grade any restored original movie poster higher than a C8.5 Very Fine to Near Mint. This is the policy of some other large original movie poster dealers, and we feel it is proper and appropriate. Even the best restoration of an original may never make it as pristine as when it first came off the production line. Speaking of prior flaws, the pre-restoration grade was C7.5, Very Fine Minus. Restoration corrected: a pin hole on the bottom left corner, one pin hole each at the top left and top right corners, and a pin hole on the bottom right above "1974"; small creamy whitish marks in the "W" and the last "L" of "WILL" and in the "S" and first or second "V" in "SURVIVE" and in the "a" of "what"; whitish Fold marks all along the words "WILL BE" and "THEM"; Whitish marks in the Title in the "S" and "W" of "CHAINSAW" and in the "M" and in the first "A" and in the "R" in "MASSACRE"; white showing through generally along all horizontal and vertical Fold lines caused by the Fold lines; a smudge above the NSS warning along the bottom; a whitish crease along the bottom handle of the chainsaw; white crease marks in the brow background area at the top right; and finally minor scraps/lines in the clothes of Leatherface on one of his pant legs and on his left shoulder in the bluish area. This may seem like a lot of flaws for an original movie poster graded at C7.5 Very Fine minus, but all of these flaws were minor in our opinion - that is there were no long deep tears or missing paper or that type of major and obtrusive flaw. In fact, a flaw that often occurs on FOLDED original movie posters - separation at the cross Folds - was not a problem with this original at any time. A cross Fold is where a vertical Fold line meets a horizontal Folds line, which happen 3 times down the center of Folded original movie posters. In addition, the whitish appearance that occurs from wear at the Fold lines which are on many original, Folded THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE posters are not found on this original listed here, due to restoration. To us, this is a major improvement of the appearance to our original movie poster of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.After restoration, this original movie poster now displays beautifully. It has a very clean appearance with solid and rich colors. And the details of the images are excellent. We believe that the original 1974 movie poster THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE has excellent value and investment value. A major reason for that it that it was distributed by Bryanston Distributing Company. Bryanston was the distributing company when the film was released in 1974. About two years later or so in 1976/77, New Line Cinema bought out Bryanston and one change was made to the THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE original movie poster. Rather than list Bryanston at the bottom of the poster it now listed New Line Cinema. We feel that the limited issuance of original Bryanston THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE movie posters makes them more sought after by fans and collectors alike and thus more valuable than the New Line Cinema issued originals. The investment value is also increased by the high grade of C8.5 (Very Fine/Near Mint) of this poster, while the linen backing will ensure its longevity in this C8.5 Very Fine to Near Mint condition.
