Description: They Asked for a Paper: Papers and Addresses by C.S. Lewis. Published by Geoffrey Bles in 1962. This is a first edition of the last book published during Lewis’ lifetime. From the library of Oliver Tomkins with his ownership signature on the ffep. Oliver Stratford Tomkins was an Anglican Bishop of Bristol in the third quarter of the 20th century. He was appointed to the episcopate in 1959 as the Bishop of Bristol and consecrated a bishop on 6 January 1959, be Geoffrey Fisher, Archbishop of Canterbury, at Westminster Abbey; a post he held for 16 years until his retirement on 1 October 1975. The book itself is in very good condition for its age. Minor spine lean. Spine ends pushed and bumped. Exposed edges of text block a little dusty/soiled. Offsetting to endpapers. Signature of Tomkins to ffep along with penciled notation. Penned notation on first blank page towards rear of book. Likely from hand of Tomkins. Rear pastedown has small penciled notation. A few finger smudges and/or soiling here and there. Pages appear to be otherwise clean. Dust jacket is in very good condition for its age. Some chipping with loss, most significantly at spine and fold tips. Some rubbing, wear, short closed tears, soiling, etc. See pictures to judge condition for yourself.
