The first volume of verse by the author of Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Jude the Obscure, and Far from the Madding Crowd - also notable for the inclusion of a frontispiece and thirty illustrations by Hardy. Includes poetry representing over 25 years of Hardy's work as a poet. Its publication seems to have been a turning point in his career as an author, as he published only poetry for the next 30 years.
