Offered for sale is a copy of Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow--in its first U.K. edition, the second printing, of 1974. This copy--which was withdrawn from an institutional library and retains the usual stamps, stickers, and paste-downs--is in fair-to-good condition. The interior is free of underscores, annotations, &c., though some of the pp. are lightly stained or dog-eared. The boards are worn, sunned, and fraying at the extremities. The back-strip, tearing at the front board, has been secured (apparently by a professional hand) with archival tape: the repair made, the back-strip should endure. The hinge itself remains robust, and the binding is tight. The top-stain is bold. Hardcover copies from the first edition of Pynchon's novel--whether by Viking or Cape (I'm unsure whether the U.S. edition has priority over the U.K.)--are increasingly scarce and highly prized.
