Both got their trolley systems about the same time. Not much has been written about our own Carlisle 's street railway lines, so it is with a view towards partially filling the void that this modest monograph has been prepared. As technicalities and statistics are terribly dry reading, the author will use this information only where necessary and dwell on the far more interesting human side of the story. There will be omissions, and probably some errors, of course, for which we make no apology. To prepare a detailed history on this subject would fill many booklets this size.
