Description: New 12/21. The Terminal Railroad Historical Society of St. Louis produces a superb annual magazine with finely researched articles, usually centered around a main story, which are fully illustrated with color and b&w white images, ephemera, track plans, diagrams, menus, and fold-out tip-ins. Issue 81 at 268 pages is the largest issue to date. It chronicles passenger service from St. Louis to Los Angeles via the Rock Island’s “Golden State Limited.” Over the years, there was plenty of rail competition on passenger service between St. Louis and the west coast. Much of that service went through Kansas City before taking a number of different routes west. Various railroads combined efforts, such as the Wabash and Union Pacific. The Rock took a different route, heading from St. Louis through Kansas, New Mexico, and Arizona before entering California. Resorts at Tucson, Phoenix, Yuma, and Palm Springs were served. Herein is the story of the “Golden State,” from motive power, rolling stock, consists, dining service, wrecks, weather, maintenance, terminals, etc. A superbly researched book with color and b&w imagery. Maps, tables of info, rosters, advertising, diagrams, fold outs and much more grace these pages. This is a digitally printed softcover book in a PUR binding format. Includes a map pocket inside the rear cover with a reproduction menu. Gloss paper. New shrinkwrapped copy. Retail is $50.00. Depot Square Publishing has been in the railroad book business since 1994.
