Description: Two (Pair) of Antique J Clementson Black Ironstone Transferware Staffordshire Hyson Plates 9 3/8". ITEM TYPE AntiqueTYPE Pottery, Ironstone, Transferware, StaffordshirePURPOSE PlateORIGIN StaffordshireCOLOR Black They are beautiful plates in black transferware with an Oriental motif of a man and woman on a bridge with pagodas and a border of scrolls and roses. This set was made by the J Clementson pottery of the Phoenix and Bell Works, Shelton, Hanley, Staffordshire, England. The Clementson pottery was in business from 1839-1864, and these plates survives it's 1840s manufacture in very nice condition with no chips or cracks. One plate does have some crazing under the glaze, however. The plates bears the Phoenix bird trademark with "Ironstone" above, the pattern name "Hyson", and "J Clementson" beneath as shown in the photos. Shipped with Fedex Ground.
