ULTRA-RARE c.1900 Antique GEORGE WASHINGTON Engraving

Description: Ultra-Rare c.1900 Steel Engraving PRES. GEORGE WASHINGTON By the John A. Lowell [Bank Note] Co. - Boston [ FEATURES AND DETAILS... ] This is an ultra-rare strike, c.1900, of a right-facing President George Washington steel engraving by John A. Lowell & Co., stationers, engravers, and printers -- a name they bore from the 1880s until c.1919, when they began to list themselves as the John A. Lowell Bank Note Co. Notice that this is NEARLY the identical engraving of President Washington that first appeared on the U.S. One Dollar Bill in 1917 -- and remains to this day. There are small differences, such as the ruffled collar is different, and the one used on the currency does not have the buttons on the president's jacket as you see here. The president's portrait here IS, however, the same size as the one on the dollar bill. This engraving includes additional elements that are beautifully done: the star, cartouche border, laurel wreath with berries, and American eagle. This is an original strike of this rare engraving, not a modern reproduction. The back of the card is blank. - YES, I combine shipping. I have other postcard lots and related items in my store.
